TIk Tok Tips

With 68% of Gen Z using the app daily, TikTok is all the buzz in the world of content marketing. An estimated 167 million TikTok videos are watched around the world every 60 seconds. If you haven’t already made an account for your business, it’s time to hop on the TikTok train.

The thought of creating entertaining, useful, and on-brand videos in a few short seconds can be intimidating – unless you know what you’re doing of course.

That’s why we’ve put together these quick TikTok-Tips to get you started!

  • While about 45% of Gen Z say they use TikTok for comedy, remember that’s 45% of over one billion Your videos don’t necessarily have to be funny to go viral. Don’t switch-up your branding to be trendy. Instead, try adapting trends to suit your brand. Consistency is massively important when it comes to branding, so be sure to create content that’s relevant to your image.
  • Don’t shy away from TikTok’s features! For example, duets, stitch, and video replies are great ways to raise engagement with your viewers.
  • Partner with other TikTok creators and influencers to expand your following, and build greater rapport with viewers (AKA potential consumers.)
  • Utilize TikTok Ads Manager, which currently has five different types of advertising: branded hashtags, in-feed ads, branded effects, brand take-overs, and top-view ads.
  • Your content doesn’t have to be perfect – it just has to be engaging. Use TikTok as an opportunity to share the personal side of your business by showing team members, projects in progress, or even your pets.

Now that you know these tips, you need to know the language. TikTok has the highest engagement rate per post out of all social media platforms; it’s important to know what your followers are saying. Below are some of the highest trending TikTok terms, what they mean, and how to use them to your advantage.

FYP

“FYP” is an abbreviation for “For You Page,” which is where the majority of users get their content. The “For You Page” uses an algorithm that suggests content to users based on other videos that they’ve watched. You can put #FYP in your captions to attract more views.

DC

“DC” simply means “Dance Credits.” When you do a trending TikTok dance in a video, use DC and mention the creator of the dance to give credit where it’s due.

Cheugy

Cheugy refers to someone or something that is behind the times. If you notice content being called cheugy, steer clear, because it is not trending.

Alt TikTok

This is essentially a subgenre of TikTok that embodies Gen Z’s unique humor and eccentric side. If your content and branding fits this vibe, Alt TikTok is the place to be.

Tea

When someone is talking about tea, it’s probably not about the beverage. “Tea” is often used in place of “news” or “gossip.”

Crop

This one is pretty simple. If someone comments “crop” it means that something appears to be unintentionally cropped out of your video. For example, if captions are only partially visible, someone would comment “crop.”

Pushing P

This literally translates to “pushing positivity,” encouraging people to express and share positive thoughts, actions, and content.

Straight TikTok

Straight TikTok is the most popular side of the platform where you can find trending influencers, challenges, and a whole lot of dancing!

Learn On TikTok

Adding #LearnOnTikTok is a great way to get more views. Learn On TikTok is a side of the platform where viewers can learn about pretty much anything. Content such as recipes, how-to videos, and fun facts are perfect for this section.
