Marketing slogans

A company’s slogan is a major part of their branding. It’s the kitchy-catchy phrase or jingle that pops in our minds when we think of that business.

Creating the perfect slogan gives business owners a measure of control over what their product is associated with – and it creates a lasting impression on consumers.

What makes a slogan great?

We’ve put together a list of our top ten favorite slogans of all time to help you brainstorm! Let’s break them down.

Dick’s: Every Season Starts With Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Right off the bat, this slogan encourages consumers to shop year round: all four seasons, and for all sports seasons. Combine this clever line with the empowered business woman behind it, and boom: perfection.

In light of the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, the CEO and President of this chain, Lauren Hobart, released a statement that Dick’s will be reimbursing the travel expenses of employees who need to travel to get an abortion.

Good slogans need good companies to back them up.

Pop Fit: Growing Together

The female led company Pop Fit is dedicated to body positivity and supporting women owned businesses. Their slogan “Growing Together” includes their target audience by making them a valued part of that mission.

It’s a slogan that sends the message, “no matter what your size is, you fit in with us.” Boss babes everywhere can resonate with that.

Planned Parenthood: Care. No Matter What.

Another simple yet powerful slogan. Planned Parenthood’s mission is to provide important sexual and reproductive health care to people who need it – no matter what. Their slogan comes across with genuinity and devotion, speaking directly to the people in need of their services.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. Ethical marketing matters to consumers. Your branding and your business practices should align with something that you authentically believe in. Otherwise, catchy slogans become empty and unappealing to your target audience.

Café con Libros: Coffee. Tea. Books. Community.

This intersectional feminist bookstore and cafe in New York has totally nailed it. Concise and inviting, this slogan brings booklovers together for hot beverages and connection through literature. Owned by the inspiring entrepreneur Kalima DeSuze, Cafe con Libros is blooming and booming – we’re a particularly big fan of the webstore, which you can find here.

Made by Mary: Wear Your Story in Gold, Close to Your Heart.

We love this meaningful slogan. It’s on brand, on point, and perfectly describes Made by Mary’s mission.

A new mom in 2013, founder Mary Moody was inspired to launch her company. In her own words, Mary “was drawn to the idea of creating jewelry to represent these pivotal moments in life — from the triumphant to the tragic.”

Now that we’ve shown you our absolute favorites, let’s move on to our break-down of the mainstream brands we all know and love.

Apple: Think Different

Apple is constantly upgrading their products and coming up with new innovative technology. Their slogan tells customers that they think outside the box, while setting themselves apart from competitors in just two words.

L’oreal: Because You’re Worth It

Why buy L’oreal? Because you’re worth it – you deserve it. That’s the message that this business sends to consumers. Their target audience is people who want to look and feel better about themselves, which is why this slogan appeals to them. It reminds them of their worth!

Arm the Animals: Fashion. Activism. Attitude.

Like all slogans should, Arm the Animals’ describes their branding, mission, and style. Right off the bat, consumers know what they are, what to expect, and what the business stands for.

Forbes: Change The World

News companies in general have a pretty cut and dry mission: to inform the public of current events. Forbes reports on changes in the world, but their slogan encourages readers to use the information reported to change the world themselves.

Netflix: See What’s Next

What’s new? What’s coming out in the future? What’s trending right now? Movie buffs everywhere want to see what’s next, and Netflix knows what they want to hear. This slogan builds anticipation and brand awareness like a pro.

What Makes A Great Slogan?

There are a few things that all of these slogans have in common.

  • They’re brief, and simple to remember, which increases brand awareness amongst the target audience.
  • The words are specifically geared toward the company’s desired customers, and said in a way that is easily identified with.
  • The phrase is always relevant to what the business provides, and what their mission statement is.
  • The businesses behind the slogans stand for something. Whether it’s as heavy as reproductive rights, to something light such as valuing memories, every company needs core values, and a moral focus. Consumers are all about ethical marketing, so get on board before the train leaves without you.
  • All of these slogans are consistent with the company’s branding. Saying something off-brand will confuse your customer base, and cause customers to associate you with the wrong things.
  • They’re authentic! Authenticity goes a long way in marketing. Trust us – your consumer base can sniff out BS from a mile away.
